Friday 21st
At 5pm we are making our way to the marina bay street circuit for free practice. We decide to walk as it is only about 30 minutes away. Upon arriving at the circuit we take our seats for free practice 1, we are quite close to the track and the view of the marina from our seats is really nice! After free practice 1 we have some time before the next practice session, so we wander over to the entertainment stage where a guy called Tom Thum was on stage. He is a beatboxer from Oz and was actually really good!
It was now time to head back for free practice two, it was also quite dark and it had all come to life! The track was fully light, the marina was all light and it looked amazing!!
Saturday 22nd
So today it’s free practice 3 followed by qualifying. One of the many options for entertainment tonight was bananarama:-s. We headed over to the stage to check them out but didn’t stay long!! There was also a band called Vox on a different stage, they are a pop/rock band on strings. They were really good, way better than bananarama (not that that takes much!!) haha!
Time for qualifying and again darkness has fallen. Lewis puts it on pole! Whoop whoop!!
To finish off the day maroon 5 on stage!!! Playing in a theatre that apparently holds 50 000 people and it was full!! They played for about an hour and were amazing!!
Sunday 23rd
Race day has arrived!!
We get to the circuit early to have a look around rest of track and see what else is going on. We find some classic cars and each of them has the name of a racing driver on it, because they will b driven round in these for the driver’s parade before race starts! We then head over to some more marquees and find one of them doing free tattoos!! So after queueing for about 40 minutes we have our free tattoos:-) then it’s time to head to our seats for the drivers track parade!
In grid order the drivers are all driven round the track in the classic cars we saw earlier, this takes some time as they are not going very fast. Next it’s time for the pit lane to open so all the cars can get out and do a lap or two of the circuit before lining up on the grid. We then have the national anthem and a minutes silence for Prof Sid Watkins R.I.P.
Cars are all lined up on the grid ready waiting for lights out…. and away we go!!! It’s all going well Lewis is managing about a 2 second gap over Vettel and even manages to stay in front at the first round of stops! Then just before the half way point it all goes wrong and Lewis has to retire from the race with a gear box issue… Game over!!! Throughout the rest of the race we have 2 safety cars. The first when Karthikeyan hits the wall going into the tunnel right underneath our seats!! So we get to see them recovering the car. The second safety car was because schumi ran in to the back of jean Eric Vergne!! So of course the race finished with Vettel at the top of the podium with Jenson 2nd and Alonso in 3rd. To finish off a disappointing day it was time for Katy Perry to perform up on stage and who was really good.
