As the new season of the English premier league has just started I thought I would look into how I could watch EPL in Australia. Back in the UK I was pretty much priced out of watching it as I couldn't justify the monthly fee for the amount of football I would actually watch. The competition between SKY and BT sport made it even harder, as I definitely couldn't justify both subscriptions.
Optus EPL - Watch all live games On Optus Sport
So what I found out doing some research over here was actually quite surprising. The rights to the EPL have recently been purchased by Optus and if you take out a contract mobile with them you can actually get Optus sport including Optus premier league , champions league, internationals, football, Europa league for free or $15(£8) a month on a pay as you go contract and that allows you to watch all the EPL live games. Just as an example I pay €52 for 40gb, unlimited minutes/text, international minutes and free Optus sport.
...they also sometimes let you try it for free without a mobile, I was able to watch all matches until the end of August, so that's the first 3 weeks of the season for free. And like I said you didn’t need a Optus mobile , or need to enter any credit card information.
The best thing is that even if you miss a match or can’t stay up that late to watch them all the matches are available on demand for the next week, highlights are also available to watch. They also have a mini match option which is a 24 minute version of the match, usually more than enough. This is actually how I watched the 2018 World Cup, got up early and watched a couple of mini matches, then one or two when I got home.
....and the list of live matches available this weekend
Watch EPL in Australia on Free to air TV channel SBS ONE
Also unlike the UK free to air TV still has the rights to show some English premier league matches. For example SBS one are showing the Watford vs Liverpool game from day 2 of the 2017/2018 premier league season.
Watch Premier league using UK based services via VPN
The other option is to use a VPN to watch using your UK based service providers, but please check their terms & conditions to ensure this is OK. This method will help you watch things like match of the day on the BBC iplayer or sport via SKY's streaming apps if you still have your service active.
Basically all you need to do is install a VPN like tunnel bear, choose UK as connection destination and then watch as usual.
Online streaming services
The title of streaming covers a great many things but I will focus on legitimate and currently legal services like TVCatchup.com. This website allows you to watch live UK TV, so you can watch Match of the day, although it might have to be the Sunday morning showing.
